I completely support your method Andi.

I also support what hillexallen said. Asking traceurs to not watch the show is perfectly reasonable, and does not necessarily indicate negativity. I for one will not be watching it. I will also employ Andi's suggestions.

Brian Orosco is the lesser known of the 4? He's the one that's already broken into mainstream media with Ninja Warrior.

"For any person that says Parkour is what YOU want it to be, God kills a kitten"-Ruzkin

I love that quote, as well as this dialogue. Very similar to the one we've been having for over three years at the WFPF. Thanks to those of you who are willing to reserve judgement...and to those who've already made up their minds, an even bigger thanks, cause it just makes us work harder to understand and address your point of view. Total respect to all practitioners of this amazing discipline and philosophy. It's true, we do believe that in some way or another PK/FR is destined to move into the mainstream, but that doesn't mean individuals can't each train as they wish and follow their own path. I have been a devoted yogi since WAY before it was cool. I've watched Yoga (which has been around for 2500 years) become the exercise fad of the moment, so that it's all about hard abs and fancy outfits; but how does that take away from my own practice unless I allow it to? And who am I to say that none of those other folks are getting the benefits, spiritual as well as physical? As for our organization, I can't say we're perfect, and I have no doubt we'll make mistakes along the way (i.e., the reference to "teams" on the website page which was thrown up by a web designer and has since been taken down), but we are trying like hell to do this right; that's why we've been listening for over a year now to the athletes who've honored us with their trust and involvement. Yes, the MTV show has a "competitive" format, but we hope those who tune in will find it more like NINJA than UFC (LOL). It is NOT and never was meant to be the "World Championship of PK/FR" and there will be lots of points of view expressed. To those of you who don't tune in, we hope you'll check out our website (still under construction) from time to time. We're not all about competition, as the coming months will demonstrate.

The WFPF Mission Statement:

"The World Freerunning & Parkour Federation is dedicated to the safe and respectful advancement of the Parkour & Freerunning Movement throughout the world. Inspired by the creativity and mental discipline embodied by Parkour and Freerunning, the athletes and founders of the WFPF will faithfully bring this philosophy of movement to the growing numbers of optimistic young people around the globe who believe that through camaraderie, self-expression, and service to others, there is no obstacle that cannot be overcome."

One last thing about the word "compete"...the orginal meaning was "to strive together."

Peace.

Without going into the merit of Fire Walker's answer/statement, I would like to thank him and Nomadiac for their decision to accept and participate to an open discussion on this forum.

I also would like to invite everybody else to keep on participating to this thread (which has been praised even on APK) and voicing their opinions, suggestions, concerns and constructive criticisms (if they have any).

I'm still skeptical about the WFPF, but it is good that they are at least trying to interact with us on the forums. I hope that they continue to do so.

However, I think we should remember that anyone can write a passage that sounds really good, but then act in a way that doesn't correspond with their words.

I still really dislike the game show, also. It does not show what we are about. I'm wondering if the representative on this forum trains parkour himself and understands the discipline (It is not possible to understand it without practicing it). Obviously, parkour is different from Yoga and surfing. I didn't really like those comparisons.

I also don't think that parkour needs to become commercialized, and I didn't like how they are saying "it is inevitable, so we'll just speed up the process."

Please, keep on posting!

I must say Victor, you seemed like you meant well on the phone, but now you have lied to us. I think I've changed my mind about your event.

You told me over the phone that the show would "showcase individuals, teams, and brands." And now you say that the 'team' reference was just a mistake of your web designer.

We all talk to each other across communities. You cannot tell us different things and not expect us to catch on. Even your contract signees are talking. It would be better for you if you were honest from here on out.

No lies, man. I meant what I said and still do, teams and individuals will be featured on the show. My feeling was, however, that the log line on the website made it sound like we expected everyone to be on a team, that it looked like we were imposing some sort of league structure, which is not the case. Any individual on the show who's part of a team and wants to wear something to advertise it, we'll support that choice. If not, that's cool, too. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was sincere when we spoke and also was when I wrote the above.

but whatever. You guys are smart industry professionals, and it is hard to believe you would put up a slogan without thinking it through. The sum of your comments is shady at best.

A little bit of additional background regarding the people who happen to be the principals of the WFPF for those who would like to know a little more.

-A combined yearly total of 17 years living abroad including 5 years in Paris, France.
-A combined yearly total of 22 years of teaching youth, from at risk inner city youth, to drug and alcohol addicted youth, to young gang leaders trying to get out of the gang life, to rich spoiled kids who need something to hang on to other than shopping and wrecking their parents cars. A committed background in helping inspire young people from all walks of life to dream and create a positive community amongst themselves and beyond.
-An openness to hearing opinions from across the United States as well as around the world, or why else would we sign up here to take our chances at a public pummeling (ha!).

We love the dialogue and all the peeps that we've met in person and online, even if the debate gets heated....

When the risk to remain tight in a bud
Was more painful
Than the risk it took to blossom"

Doing everything in secret, signing up participants (Daniel Ilabaca, Oleg, Pip Anderson, Ryan Doyle, Team Tempest, Livewire, Philly Doyle, Zurkan, Filip etc) for $1500 each and having them sign nda's to tie them up, paying them $800 each per appearance, setting up a league with a view to a world competition. The list goes on. Stop talking your media [censored] and just be up front with everyone.

3 of my friends have signed your contract and are already unhappy with how it is panning out, so somebody is doing something wrong from the offset.

Victor, you are a shady character who stole this idea from someone else and the 'World Parkour & Freerunning Federation' is a perfect example of trying to cash in on 2 different disciplines.

I hope the shooting of the pilot goes well at the end of the month.

Too bad that's not what it's known to be anymore.
