foot drop

Landings without Rolls
You can't take a 20 foot drop straight down. At least I'm not going to try it. Or are you talking about smalle drops say of like 3 feet? I'm a little confused. So could you be more specific. I probably should have too.

I think what he means as that it doesn't matter how much forward momentum you have, you are stopping the same amount of downward force no matter what. It's true that rolling is easier with forward momentum, but it's not much different. You see the horizontal velocity of your movement is completely independent of the downward force of your landing, ie, a running ...

heh heh you can't do it with a roll either, so what's your point?
check out the final drop belle does at the end of his manpower gap sequence... the straight down drop... how high you think that is?

That is true, I was trying to say you can take a 20 foot drop much more easily with a roll otherwise all those thousands of pounds of force go straight to you legs and knees. The only time I have ever seen people take drops with no forward momentum is after doing acrobatic manuevers in the air. Parkour's general direction is forward usually you want forward momentum and you also want to roll to spread out the impact. I still don't think landing straight down is such a good idea. Give me evidence that shows it I think David Belles case doesn't apply to us because he has been training 18 years. ...
